B.A. or B.S./M.Ed. 5 year plan Students, if you would like to do any of the following, the B.A. or B.S./M.Ed. 5 year plan may be your best choice!
First year students at Averett and transfer students are eligible for admission! Students may complete a five-year program of study leading to the Baccalaureate (B.A. or B.S.) and the Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees. This program prepares students for licensure and endorsement in elementary education (PreK-6) and a minor in special education that may be applied toward a teaching license in special education, and a certificate in Autism from the Autism Council of Virginia. Students begin professional studies in their second year and their education requirements continue throughout the remaining three year period by being moved into graduate status at the end of the spring semester of their fourth year with student teaching assignments during the fall semester of year five. Students will take comprehensive examinations and complete remaining coursework spring semester of year five. Students complete 66 hours in general education, select two areas of concentration from two different departments to complete a minimum of 12 hours to be taken in each concentration. Students may select concentrations that will lead toward the B.A. or a B.S. degree. Additionally, students complete Professional studies in Education courses for the combined B.A. or B.S. degree with the M.Ed. degree. Admission requirements to the 5 year program include:
