Averett's Education Major
The goal of the education department is to graduate proficient teachers who pursue excellence through continuous learning and self-improvement.The Virginia Department of Education has approved Averett's teacher education program at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Certification available in:
Elementary (PK-6) Health and Physical Education (PK-12) Secondary (6-12)
History and Political Science (6-12) PK-12 education Mathematics (6-12)
Biology (6-12) Theatre (PK-12) Computer Science (6-12)
Visual Arts (PK-12) English (6-12)  


Add-on endorsements may be earned in journalism, speech communication and driver education. Students may also choose to minor in special education. Averett also offers a master of education degree.Alternately, students may complete a five-year program of study leading to baccalaureate (B.A. or B.S.) and master of education (M.Ed.) degrees.
