Averett's Equestrian Major The mission of the equestrian studies department is to provide its students with a bachelor's degree that is not only recognized in the equine industry for its quality, but that prepares students to fill a variety of positions in the field. Available areas of emphasis include Management, Dressage Instruction and Eventing Instruction. All students take core courses covering a wide variety of topics including, careers in the equine industry, anatomy and physiology, lameness and disease, equine nutrition, stable management, horsemastership, rider fitness, lunging and teaching novice riding. Students with concentrations in one of the teaching areas will also take advanced riding courses in their area of specialty and teaching courses leading to certification from American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA), the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) or United States Eventing Association (USEA). |
