Randolph College - Resident Stable Manager
Randolph College has an immediate opening for a professional, full-time Stable Manager at the Riding Center.  This position is responsible for effective and efficient stable management and complete and immediate health care of all horses, including record keeping.  The manager is responsible for all after hour care, deliveries, and nightly barn checks and will live on the premises. Duties also include stall cleaning, grooming, unloading hay, and working in all weather conditions.

The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, passion for the work involved and effective communication skills. Qualifications include a minimum of 4 years of grooming or stable management, ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted, proficient computer skills, ability to supervise staff of 4-6, and positive attitude.  Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

Scattered Acres Sport Horses - Working Student
Scattered Acres Sport Horses is looking for a working student to learn in all aspects of barn management, horse training, eventing competition grooming, riding instruction, and equestrian business management.  Working student will receive riding lessons on a regular basis and will be in charge of keeping school horses exercised.

Autumn Rae is a highly competitive upper level event rider and coach who has successfully brought many students to high levels of horsemanship.  Her main working student/farm manager raised in ranks from Beginner to the 2012 Novice Adult Amateur Rider of the Year.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America - Horse riding instructors needed - summer jobs

The season opens June 2 and closes July 29, 2013. Food and housing are provided, plus a salary.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America operates a summer camp near Radford, VA. We have two horse riding programs that need adult directors (male or female, age 21 or older):

1) Instruction in Horsemanship Merit Badge. Live in a cabin in a Boy Scout base camp and get your meals from a dining hall. The camp has electricity, hot showers and the modern amenities. On weekdays train Scouts in basic riding skills. We use western tack.

2) Lead trail rides as a wrangler for our High Knoll Trail backpacking program. Camp in a remote mountain outpost without electricity. Prepare your own meals from food we provide. On weekdays, take novice riders, who back pack into your camp, on a trail ride and teach basic skills.

Touchstone Acres - Summer Equine Intern

Prefer some dressage skills or at least some ground work skills and young stock handling. Lessons and showing opportunities would be included if the riding skills are there. Otherwise more of a general groom and management is possible. I cannot offer housing so the person needs to live nearby or be able to arrange something on their own. I can pay a small amount plus the lessons and show fees. I can possibly board a horse.
