Working student to learn in all aspects of barn management, horse training, eventing competition grooming, riding instruction, and equestrian business management. Working student will receive riding lessons on a regular basis, will help to keep school horses in training, and assist in all aspects of stable management. 

This is a great opportunity to train with a highly competitive upper level event rider and coach who has successfully brought many students to high levels of horsemanship. Her students and horses have captured titles such as Novice Adult Amateur Rider of the Year, Adult Rider of the Year, Reserve Champion at Area II Championships, Champion at the Waredaca 3-day, and much more.

Chestnut Ridge Internship
Equestrian Specialist

Position Description: This internship is focused on equestrian and camping career development.  Key focus areas of learning include equestrian program management, herd management, children/youth ministry and development, marketing and event planning, and program and partnership development. In this role, you will participate in and grow in your knowledge of equestrian program management by working alongside the Equestrian Director.  You will also assist in designing and implementing programs that teach children and adults new equestrian and horse husbandry skills. You will also design programs to teach equestrian staff effective leadership skills in relation to the camp’s mission and goals.  Based on your skills and program design, you will play a leadership role for the summer camp season as well.  Interns will live in an intentional Christian community which eats, prays, works, and recreates with one another. Randolph College - Resident Stable Manager
Randolph College has an immediate opening for a professional, full-time Stable Manager at the Riding Center.  This position is responsible for effective and efficient stable management and complete and immediate health care of all horses, including record keeping.  The manager is responsible for all after hour care, deliveries, and nightly barn checks and will live on the premises. Duties also include stall cleaning, grooming, unloading hay, and working in all weather conditions.

The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, passion for the work involved and effective communication skills. Qualifications include a minimum of 4 years of grooming or stable management, ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted, proficient computer skills, ability to supervise staff of 4-6, and positive attitude.  Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

Barn Manager/Riding Instructor

Private established Hunter/Jumper farm in Monroe NC (20 min from Charlotte) is expanding and seeking a barn manager/riding instructor to help us grow. Certification is not required but candidates should have enough experience to coach at shows at least at the local level.  The ideal entry level candidate will have a strong focus on equitation and be ready to teach beginner students through advanced riders of all ages.  This should be considered a ground floor opportunity and the right candidate will have the ability to grow this program into whatever they choose. We will provide the facility, logistics, marketing and school horses as well as the option for onsite housing as part of the compensation package. Professional and personal references WILL be verified and candidate must submit to a background check as this position requires contact with children. Preference will be given to applicants who can start in January, but will consider holding the position for the right 2014 graduate.
The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Be available for feeding and care of all horses for 5 days per week (required)
  • Be available for lessons for 5 days per week (required)
  • Willing to run up to 4 camps per year, including minimum of 2 in the summer
  • Offer show coaching on Saturdays (February – November at a minimum) and some Sundays as needed

Farm owner will provide:

  • Financial maintenance of school horses (to include, nutrition, vetting and farrier expense)
  • Boarding for 1 horse belonging to the candidate (2 if one of them can be used in the lesson program)
  • Housing for the candidate
  • 50% of lesson fee to be paid to the candidate

(Lesson fee will be determined by the experience level of the candidate but will not be less than $30 and will not be over $40.  This is based on market average for this area)

  • 2 days off per week, 10 vacation days per year(unpaid)
  • $100/week gas and grocery stipend for first 6 weeks while program is established

Part time help needed

We need a responsible person who has experience taking care of horses and has reliable transportation to feed horses twice a day. Your work schedule will be variable (not always the same day of the week). Horses are outside, unless they are injured, so usually there is  minimal stall cleaning.
