The Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America - Horse riding instructors needed - summer jobs
The season opens June 2 and closes July 29, 2013. Food and housing are provided, plus a salary.
The Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America operates a summer camp near Radford, VA. We have two horse riding programs that need adult directors (male or female, age 21 or older):
1) Instruction in Horsemanship Merit Badge. Live in a cabin in a Boy Scout base camp and get your meals from a dining hall. The camp has electricity, hot showers and the modern amenities. On weekdays train Scouts in basic riding skills. We use western tack.
2) Lead trail rides as a wrangler for our High Knoll Trail backpacking program. Camp in a remote mountain outpost without electricity. Prepare your own meals from food we provide. On weekdays, take novice riders, who back pack into your camp, on a trail ride and teach basic skills.
Click Here for a staff application. You can get some idea of our camping operation through the summer camp references on our website www.bsa-brmc.org
Touchstone Acres - Summer Equine Intern
Prefer some dressage skills or at least some ground work skills and young stock handling. Lessons and showing opportunities would be included if the riding skills are there. Otherwise more of a general groom and management is possible. I cannot offer housing so the person needs to live nearby or be able to arrange something on their own. I can pay a small amount plus the lessons and show fees. I can possibly board a horse.
