What can I do with this major?

Averett's strong core curriculum prepares students for a variety of career tracks. Students may go on to graduate school, veterinary school or directly into full-time employment in fields such as stable management, marketing/sales in equine specialty firms, equine journalism, teaching, equine pharmaceutical sales, instructors, managers or nutrition/feed specialists.


What are recent graduates of this major doing?

Steve Wall, ‘78, is a professional trainer and operates Harmony Farms in Waukesha, Wisconsin, a hunter/jumper show and training facility. Wall is a United States Equestrian Federation “R” rated judge, officiating at 25 horse shows a year. He has served on the board of the Wisconsin Hunter Jumper Association, as well as the USEF’s Zone 6 board for the National Hunter Jumper Council.

Carol J. Law, ‘80, is in her 30th year as head coach of the Mount Holyoke College Riding team and in her 21st year as the Riding Program Director. She was voted Horsewoman of the Year by Spur Magazine in 1997. Law has served on the IHSA Board of Directors since 1986.

Elise Atwood Elise Atwood, ’07, is currently living in San Diego, CA and works as the head groom for US Olympic rider Susan Blinks.
Lisa DeMarie Lisa DeMaria, ’07, currently resides in southern New Hampshire. She works at the Dover Saddlery’s corporate office in Littleton, MA as a Junior Buyer.
Christina Fiebeck, ’11, currently lives in Miami, FL where she owns and operates CF Dressage. Fiebeck specializes in teaching young children, as well as training horses.
Lexy Pingree, ’12, lives in Rougemont, NC and has recently started the marketing graduate program at Elon University. In addition to her school work, Pingree works as a freelance marketing assistant for Equisol Marketing Company based in Lexington, KY. Equisol Marketing is where Pingree did her internship during her time at Averett.
Catherine Rock, ’12, lives in Tampa, FL and works as a veterinarian technician at Surgi-Care Center for Horses.
Laura Thompson,’12, is the barn manager for Laurel Farms Sporthorses, a small private Eventing stable in Lebanon, TN. Thompson continues to ride and compete her own horse as well.
Noelle Hill, ’13, lives in Hurt, VA. Upon graduation, Hill accepted the position to be the Equestrian Studies intern at Averett. She will aid in the management of the barn and apprentice teach with several of the riding instructors.
