The Averett University Department of Modern Languages develops communication skills and cultural awareness that prepare students to be knowledgeable and conscientious citizens of local, national, and global communities. The language program is designed to enhance critical thinking and multicultural awareness.
The French and Spanish programs are proficiency-based, with students learning practical language skills as they progress through each level to advanced coursework in language, literature, and culture. Our graduates are prepared for a wide range of professional opportunities as well as graduate study in a variety of disciplines.
Averett's modern language degree includes courses in French or Spanish with supporting study in the other language. Students have the opportunity to major in modern languages or minor in French or Spanish. Students who wish to teach may elect to major in education with a concentration in either language.
