Averett University recognizes the importance of education for members of the Military.  Our commitment  includes providing programs and services for active duty and reserve Military members, DoD/State Military Civilian Employees, Military and Civilian Family Members, and Veterans.

Reduced Tuition for Active Duty Military
In recognition of the tremendous service that the active duty Military provides to the nation, Averett's  IDEAL Program provides a special tuition rate of $250 per credit hour.

Tuition Assistance
Averett University accepts tuition assistance from all military services.  Tuition costs have been carefully examined to ensure that the maximum benefit is accorded to the service member.  In many instances, military personnel will be able to complete their degree with limited out of pocket tuition costs.

Credit Transfer
Military credit is accepted from Military Training Courses, Occupational Specialty, and Service Colleges.  Application of military credit to core curriculum requirements may be limited. 

Depending on your military training, Averett University can apply college credit to your degree program:

  • For service members and veterans of the U.S. Army, submit an AARTS transcript.
  • For service members and veterans of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, submit a SMART transcript.
  • For service members and veterans of the U.S. Air Force, submit a transcript from the Community College of the Air Force.
  • For service members and veterans of the U.S. Coast Guard, submit a transcript from the U.S. Coast Guard Institute.
  • National Guard members who are using or will use Tuition Assistance, please click on this link GoArmyEd
  • For service members who left the military before 1986, the University can apply credits from a notarized DD Form 214.  More information and forms can be found on our Veterans Benefits page.

SOC Membership
As a member of Servicemember Opportunity Colleges (SOC), Averett University policies support military members through

  • Liberal credit transfer from other colleges and universities
  • Acceptance of standardized examinations
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
  • DANTES subject standardized tests

Military Scholarships

In recognition of the service that the military provides to this nation, Averett University offers a special scholarship for all military members (active or reserve), DOD civilian employees, State National Guard employees, and their family members. Graduate and Professional Studies students must submit their applications to their enrollment counselor during the admissions process. This scholarship is available for all degree programs statewide and provides a 25% tuition reduction to those students enrolled on a full-time basis. This scholarship cannot be combined with academic scholarships offered through the traditional program.

Averett University is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium and the SOC Degree Network System.

The SOC Consortium consists of colleges and universities committed to expanding and improving voluntary postsecondary educational opportunities for servicemembers worldwide. SOC Consortium members subscribe to principles and criteria to ensure that quality academic programs are available to active-duty military students, their family members, and veterans. A list of current SOC Consortium member institutions can be found on the SOC Web site at http://www.soc.aascu.org/.

Averett University is a member of the SOC Degree Network System, a subgroup of SOC Consortium member institutions selected by the military Services to deliver specific associate and bachelor’s degree programs to servicemembers and their families. As a member of the DNS, we have agreed to adhere to academic policies intended to support military students in their academic endeavors towards degree completion.

Averett University is approved for membership in SOCMAR and SOCCOAST at the bachelor’s degree level.

  • We accept CLEP and Dantes exams.
