GPS Admissions Requirements

Associate's:

  • A high school transcript indicating high school completion with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or a GED of 250 (paper-based) or 500 (computer-based), and a 2.0 GPA on any previous college work*
  • Submission of completed application
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities, if applicable
  • Official transcripts from CLEP, DANTES, and a copy of offi cial military transcripts, if applicable
  • For non-native English speaking applicants, students must achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper based test), 173 (computer based test), 61 (internet based test) or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5**

*Diploma not required if 12 college credits have been earned from a regionally accredited college and the credits were towards a degree
**TOEFEL testing may be waived. Please speak with an Enrollment Representative.

Bachelor's:

  • A minimum of 2 years full-time work experience
  • 54 transferrable credits from a regionally accredited college/university or Averett core curriculum

Master's:

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Submission of completed application
  • Official transcripts for the last 60 credits of the undergraduate degree. Transcripts must indicate date of undergraduate degree conferred
  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) over the last sixty semester hours of undergraduate study toward a baccalaureate degree. The Graduate Admissions Committee may consider students who are below a 3.0 GPA for admission to maintain a minimum grade of "B" in each of the first four business courses attempted
  • Three years of full-time work experience
  • A score of 600 (paper-based total), 250 (computer-based total) or 100 (Internet-based total) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for students whose native language is not English. However, one of the following will be accepted in lieu of a TOEFL exam:
    • Student has completed 30 or more transferrable credits which include an English composition course with a grade of "C" or better from a regionally accredited American college or university where English is the language of delivery
    • Student is an active member or veteran of American armed forces. Military personnel are required to be able to communicate
      in English both orally and in writing

NOTE: MASTER OF EDUCATION requires the following additional documents:

  • A Collegiate Professional Teacher License (where applicable)
  • At least one year of experience as a primary or secondary school classroom teacher or three years in a related field for applicants not holding a Collegiate Professional License
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who have knowledge of the applicant's academic or professional performance and potential, (must not be a relative or friend). Letters from former or current professors and employers are appropriate
  • Provide scores on one of the following fi ve standardized tests: Praxis I (or the standardized test mandated by the State of Virginia, composite score of 532; writing section score of 176), Praxix II (approval from Director of Graduate Education), Graduate Record Examination (combined score of 850), Miller Analogies Test (score of 400), DOE Test (minimum passing combined score used by VA DOE is 470, passing score for DOE VRA is 235), the National Teacher Examination or copy of license and statement
    from student if unable to obtain
  • Submission of a current resume including months and years of employment

Bachelor of Business Administration (Working Professionals, Accelerated)
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Management (Quantico Campus only)

  • High school completion with a GPA of 2.0 or a GED of 250, and a 2.0 grade point average on any previous college work. (exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis). Applicants need not submit a high school transcript if: they have 12 or more transferable credits with a grade of "C" or better from a regionally accredited college and the transcript shows that they were degree seeking.
  • Two years of full-time work experience and a current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation (must not be a relative or friend - one must be from a previous or current supervisor)
  • A score of 500 (paper-based total), 173 (computer-based total), or 61 (internet-based) on the TOEFL for foreign national students. One of the following will be accepted in lieu of a TOEFL exam: 1) 30 or more transferable credits including an English composition course with a grade of "C" or better from an accredited American college where English is the language of delivery 2) Student is an active member or veteran of American armed forces
  • Access to a computer with: word processing, graphical presentation software, spreadsheet capabilities and Internet

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • A cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) over the last two years (or 60 hours) of undergraduate study for full admission status. See the catalog for information on limited admission
  • Three letters of recommendation (forms available from the Graduate Program Advisor)
  • Evidence that the applicant holds or is immediately eligible for a Virginia
    teaching license if a non-licensure program is desired.
  • Scores on one of the following standardized tests: Praxis I ( if seeking licensure), the aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination, or the Miller Analogies Test
  • Pass a writing proficiency test. Details may be obtained from the Graduate Education Program Advisor

Note: If you desire teacher certification you must hold a degree in a subject area in which Averett offers a teaching license if secondary licensure is sought
