We will explore preservation's historical roots as well as the broader, modern field of preservation and how it is practiced today.
The course will also introduce the wide and diverse range of preservation policies, programs and tools such as historic districts, historic register listings, historic tax credits and easements.

Instructor: Richard Morris and Mark Willard This course will include a brief overview of historic housing styles and how to identify the different characteristics of each, what to know on your journey when looking for an old house to buy and restore, and the "dos" and "don'ts" of proper house restoration.
The course will also help answer the following questions: When looking for an old house to restore, where do you begin? How do you determine if the property you found is worth investing time and money to restore? How do you determine structural integrity of a historic building? Where do you find individual professionals that are qualified to work on old structures? What are the benefits of utilitizing state and federal historic tax credits during the restoration process?

Making very pretty, one of a kind puzzle pins and earrings in various colors. The class will cover the making and decorating 2 puzzle pins and one pair of earrings. If you are not a crafty person that's OK because this is very easy to do and will have your own personal touch.
All you need to bring with you is a bottle of tacky glue (no super glue), pair of tweezers (helpful in placing beads) and a small towel to work on so your beads won't roll.

Instructor: Dana Mahalko This course will give students the opportunity to learn the foundational steps to the 4-count, cha-cha, waltz, & fox trot. These social dances are great to know for company parties, weddings, or social events. Male students will learn how to lead; female students will learn how to follow. This is also a great refresher course. No partner is required; however, couples or dance partners are encouraged to register for this course.
Class requirements: Please wear something comfortable, which will allow you move with ease. Class recommendations: Dance shoes are recommended, but comfortable shoes are fine.

Instructor: Dr. William Trimyer An abbreviated course on Islam that considers the historical beginnings and the significance of Islam as one of the three monotheistic faith perspectives including Judaism and Christianity. Students will investigate modern assumptions about Islam and evaluate such questions as whether Islam is a religion of peace or a religion of violence; and if we are facing a clash of cultures or a clash of ignorance when it comes to both knowledge and understanding of Islam. The course will also investigate possible similarities or connections with Judaism and Christianity. Students will become a little more familiar with the Quran (Koran). Several films containing helpful visuals or images will be viewed to increase understanding of Islam and its history, beliefs and practices. |
