Averett University acting Athletics Director Sam Ferguson announced on August 30, 2007 the appointment as Brandon Johnson as the head Cross Country coach for both the men and women.

Johnson, a native of Roanoke, Va., graduated from Radford University in 2006. A standout tennis player on the Radford team, Johnson moved to Averett after graduation to become the assistant men’s tennis coach under Bobby Shields. In the 2007 season, Shields and Johnson led the men’s tennis team to a regular season USA South championship, only to fall in the final match to Methodist University.

Johnson is currently a graduate student at Averett in the GPS Business program.
