The 2007 season marks the 13th year of Averett University volleyball under the guidance of Danny Miller. Since joining Averett, Miller has led the Cougars to a 319-137 record and four NCAA Tournament appearances. He has also won seven conference tournament titles and nine regular season crowns.

Miller has raised the bar in the USA South, while his teams have posted victories in 70 percent of their contests. He ranks in the top-20 among active division III coaches in career winning percentage at .700. That is a remarkable feat, considering he has done it against some of the top teams in the nation.

In conference play, Miller’s resume is second to none. He has a career record of 141-17 against USA South opponents. Miller has won 89 percent of his league games and has posted no fewer than 10 league victories in a season. In 2003 he set a school record with 15 conference wins, the most of any team in the USA South Conference’s stellar history.

Miller manages to put great teams on the court year in and year out. He wins with young squads and with veterans. Miller is Averett’s winningest coach and has been named the USA South Conference Coach of the Year seven times, as well as the Virginia State Coach of the Year on five occasions. He coached and recruited Averett’s only All-American in volleyball and has developed six conference players of the year.

In the 2007 season, Miller continued his winning ways with another regular season and tournament championship. His netters posted a record of 29-7, with a 13-1 conference mark. His team placed five players on the All-Conference team, including three on the first-team. Miller also coached freshman Samantha Kirby to the Rookie of the Year award, and received Coach of the Year honors. His team traveled to San Antonio, TX for their fourth NCAA tournament appearance.

Before his record-setting head coaching career began in 1995, Miller served as an assistant on the Averett staff from 1990-94. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Averett and also serves as the university’s compliance coordinator and head women’s tennis coach. Miller and his wife Ruth reside in Danville with their daughters McKenzie and Kayden.
