Foster and Wilkerson to Present at Conference
Marsha Foster, director of residence life, and Joey Wilkerson, director of student activities and assistant dean of students, will present "Student-Athletes: Reaching Outside of Student Services to New Populations" at the Virginia Student Services Conference this week in Wintergreen. Their presentation focuses on the role that student affairs plays in working with student-athletes as they transition to college and work through the challenges that come with competing identities and identity development.

Residence Life Team Attends State Conference
Seven members of the residence life team participated in the state-wide Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers (VACUHO) RA Conference at Shenandoah University Nov. 6-7. The theme of the conference, which drew more than 300 RAs from 27 Virginia colleges and universities, was "Getting to the Core of Community." The Averett group included Joel Simpson, Tyler Williams, Tunisa Bumphus, O'Neil Campbell, Danielle Shields, Rowland Tolliver and Harrison France. The group will present their conference experience and new strategies for improving our programming efforts as they relate to our "core community" during the November residence life staff development session.

Holiday Service Projects
Several RAs and residence halls are working on a variety of holiday community service projects. Fugate Hall is working on a holiday canned food drive and with Toys for Tots. Danville Hall is working with Operation Christmas Child. For more information about ways you can help with these events, contact Nic Sturdifen at nsturdif@aumail.averett.edu.
