New Honor Society Forming at Averett

The university is starting a new honor society on campus, this one for education majors at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) International Honor Society is one of the largest and more prestigious educational honor societies in the world with more than 500 active chapters.

Undergraduate students who are taking courses in education and have a minimum 3.0 GPA will qualify for membership into Kappa Delta Pi, and graduate students must have a minimum 3.25 GPA and six semester hours completed.

Interested students are invited to attend an orientation meeting at noon Saturday, March 27 in the multi-purpose room of the Student Center. Students should bring a new children's book for a book donation toward the society's first service project, which will provide children's literature to local school children. Membership dues of $50 (national dues $38, local dues $5, and a one-time start up fee for the AU Chapter $7) will be collected at the meeting March 27.

Installation of the AU KDP Chapter will be held Saturday, April 24 at noon in Blount Chapel. At that time, new members will be initiated as Charter members.

Qualified and interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Pamela Riedel at priedel@averett.edufor more information.
