A Page-Turning Event
The opening of the new campus and community bookstore is at 3:30 p.m.on Friday, Aug. 20. There will be an opening and ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a reception in the courtyard. The event, is of course, rain or shine.

Sean Hall joins the university as the new running backs coach for the football team and will help with strength and conditioning program.

Stan Hodgin is new wide receiver's coach for the football team. Stan coached for the last five seasons at Halifax County High School - for the past three seasons he was head coach.

nadal

 

Dan Nadal is the new goalkeeper coach for the men's and women's soccer teams. Nadal joins the Cougars after a highly successful two-year stint as the goalkeeper coach at Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Conn.

Bren West, '98, is the university's new softball coach. Bren is the first full-time softball coach in the program's history. She is a member of the Cougar Club Hall of Fame.
Make sure you welcome new people as you see them around campus (and point them in the right direction if they get lost in Main Hall).


Give Me That Pickle!
The Summer Series of Extreme Customer Workshops was a huge success thanks to all of you who attended one, two and three of the programs. We counted a total of 70 participants over the three week series and that is awesome! A special mention to Marietta Sanford and Dan Hayes for their work in creating and coordinating the presentations. So here is to having fun, building bridges and giving out pickles


We are asking for topics to cover for the next summer so send your ideas to Kathie Tune, VP of Human Resources.







Hoffman's Ferrier Photographs Published
Dr. David Hoffman, professor of journalism and English, had some photographs he took of a farrier school in Martinsville published in "The Horse" magazine. David spent two days snapping pictures of the farrier students in the classroom and in the barn.
His exhibition at the Danville Science Center, "Birds of the Riverwalk," will be on display until mid-September.

Life and Disability Insurance
Effective Sept. 1 Guardian Life Insurance Company will be our new carrier for our life and disability insurance. Life insurance and long term disability will continue to be offered at no cost to employees. Guardian will also be offering supplemental life insurance as well as short term disability coverage. Short Term Disability is not currently being offered, but will now be available for you to purchase.

Brittney Stephens, a Guardian representative, will be here at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 to discuss all Guardian products in Blount Chapel.
Please attend to learn about these exciting changes and to complete new life and long term disability applications.


Holiday Break
Dates for Christmas and New Year's holidays were recently announced. In appreciation for your dedication and commitment to the university, staff offices may close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23. Offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 24 and will reopen on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.


Please note that several offices will be open during the holiday break with limited staff and hours. Supervisors will notify their respective staff members of those dates and times.
