Students in MBA Program Visit SAICmba

Dr. Gene Steadman, professor of business administration for the Adult Professional program, recently took students in his strategic management class to visit SAIC's office in McLean where they met with Kevin Ikeda, vice president and division manager of the company. The visit was arranged by Sarita Bradley and St. Francis Peters who both work for SAIC.

The visit, which lasted nearly four hours, covered the gamut in regards to SAIC, covering its beginning and mission to its multiple transformations to its current business strategy. Students learned that SAIC is primarily a services corporation, with little manufacturing and that its largest customer is the federal government. Also, the company is not always the lowest cost provider. Rather, SAIC focuses more on being the "value-added contractor" with the federal government as a partner.

This visit was a highlight of the strategic management course. According to Steadman, everyone who attended let him know they had received a first class look at the product positioning of a major corporation, and that they could see the textbook material being put into real-world action.

SAIC is a Fortune 500 scientific, engineering and technology applications company that uses its deep domain knowledge to solve problems of vital importance to the nation and the world, in national security, energy and the environment, critical infrastructure, and health.
