Promising Students Could Earn Promise Awards

Success, as defined by the Oxford English dictionary, is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose." But for your everyday Joe, there are varying degrees of success. For an actor, success might be winning that bald guy named Oscar. For a teacher, it might be helping a child finally understand a math concept they've struggled with all year. At Averett, success is not just defined as a 4.0. It's also defined as continued achievement and improvement every semester. We have many students who define success in this way. And for these students, an education is not always possible financially, but thanks to a recent gift from the Daly family the financial side of a higher education won't be as much of an issue.

The gift from the Daly's has funded eight scholarships - Daly Promise Awards - for first-generation, local, freshman or sophomore students who have shown promise since they enrolled at Averett. The Promise Awards, which range from $4,000-$4,500 per student, will help these students stay in school.

Without scholarships like this, some of our students would not be able to continue learning and continue achieving success as they define it.
