University Creates New Department

As the University continues to grow and change, so does our need to better serve and help our students in all areas, not just academics. To that end, the University has created a new department, student financial services, which is headed up by Carl Bradsher, who will serve as director. This new department will manage the entire student account process including billing (tuition and fees, room and board, etc.), student financial aid (federal, state and institutional), payment plans and collections. The department's goal is to streamline the experience for students and create a one-stop-shop for students' financial needs.

Bradsher said that priorities for the department will include merging the student accounts and student financial aid offices and moving into a common, central location, as well as leveraging new technologies to simplify processes for students.

"We have been using this new financial services technology with Adult Professional students, and it has been a real game-changer," Carl said. "Based on that success, we'll roll it out for traditional students to use this fall. Students will be able to accept financial aid and pay their bills online."

The student financial services team will be working with the student success center staff to provide training for students this spring. Staff members will see a demonstration of the new technology at the next monthly staff meeting.

Bradsher came to Averett in May of 2000, bringing more than a decade of experience in financial aid at private and public colleges. He earned his bachelor's in business administration and economics from High Point University.
