Academic Year Ends with Commencement April 30

Dr. Steve Ausband, Averett's vice president for academic affairs, will deliver the University's Spring Commencement address April 30 during a 10:30 a.m. ceremony in the E. Stuart James Grant Center. More than 290 students will receive degrees.

Ausband began teaching English at the University in 1970. In 2008, he was named dean of arts and sciences and vice president when Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks took over the presidency. He will return to the classroom to teach again this fall.

In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, Ausband has served on many committees including chair of the English department, director of the writing competency program, president of faculty council and the curriculum committee. He is also a writer, publishing three books "Myth and Meaning, Myth and Order," "Byrd's Line: A Natural History" and "Outdoors Year Round: A Guide to Fishing and Hunting in Coastal Virginia and North Carolina." In addition to his books, he has published numerous articles on subjects ranging from literature and mythology to outdoor recreation.
