

Dr. Metta Alsobrook, the new director of institutional research and effectiveness, joined the University May 9. Prior to coming to Averett she worked at the University of Texas at Dallas. Welcome Metta!

Cuz We're Movin' on Up
During Commencement April 30 announcements regarding faculty tenure and promotions in rank were made. Faculty who received tenure include Dr. Lyle Cady, Penny Sornberger, Dr. Gene Steadman and Dr. Jane Wiseman. Faculty who were promoted include Dr. Deb Demarey to associate professor of biology; Dr. Bill Trimyer to professor of religion; Wiseman to associate professor of English. Dr. Ann Garbett, retired English professor was named faculty emerita. Congratulations!
Financial Aid Promotions
Several people on the Student Financial Services Team have been promoted. Congratulations!

Randy Thornton has been promoted to assistant director of financial aid for traditional programs.

Faye Brandon has been promoted to assistant director of financial aid for Adult Professional Programs.

Marty Jackson is now serving as the financial aid counselor for all currently enrolled traditional students.
Sims and Jernigan Speak at Luncheon
Bob Sims and Mike Jernigan spoke at the Innsbrook Business Alliance's Lunch & Learn seminar Tuesday, May 10. Their discussion looked at good - and not so good - work principles for business managers and leaders and identified new skills for handling workplace problems. Sims is director of faculty services for Adult Professional and Jernigan is an associate professor of business administration.

KDP Donates Books to Boys & Girls Club
Last month, the Alpha Zeta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), Averett's International Honor Society in Education, donated books to the Boys and Girls Club of Danville as part of its Literacy Alive Project, which it conducts throughout the year. They also donated books to the Women's Shelter in Caswell County, N.C. in October 2010.
