Adult Professional Program Celebrates New Offices & Classrooms

Since its inception in 1988, Averett's Adult Professional Program has grown to 14 campus locations - two of which are by videoconference - across the Commonwealth that serve more than 1,500 students. On June 14 and 15 the University will hold a ribbon cutting/open house in Richmond and Chesapeake respectively for two new learning centers/offices.

The new location in Richmond is on Midlothian Turnpike in the Watkins Centre. The suite boasts five classrooms, an office and a community room where students can gather before or after class. Along with celebrating a new location, the University will hold a senior pinning for those who will be graduating and an alumni reunion for graduates who live in the area.

The Chesapeake location, now located on Independence Parkway, is a bigger facility than the one the program was previously in. It offers a lounge area for students, office space for faculty and offices for administration. Along with the senior pinning and alumni reunion, there will be a dedication of the student lounge to Lisa Paternite's memory.

"We are very excited about our two new locations," said Kendall Carter, interim dean of the Adult Professional Program. "Both moves put us in a better location and allow more room for growth."

In addition to opening new locations around the state, the University continues to move forward on construction of its Riverview Campus in Danville's Tobacco Warehouse District. Staff will be moving into their offices early this month and classes will be offered downtown in mid-September.

"The move to the Tobacco Warehouse District will allow us the opportunity to house our academic and enrollment offices together like the other regions," Carter said. "This will allow us to better serve our students regarding any questions or issues that might arise."

The new facility will have a lounge, two study rooms, computer labs, faculty offices, classrooms and offices for administrative personnel.
