|Celebrating the Dream|
Averett will celebrate one of this country's most influential dreamers on Monday, Jan.21 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day - during an admissions open house event from 9-9:45 a.m. in Pritchett Auditorium.
This special program will feature the Averett Singers combined with the Averett Gospel Choir, Civil Rights era music and poems read by Averett students, the "I Have A Dream" address by Dr. King on video, and special words from Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks. With permission from your supervisor please plan to attend and celebrate Dr. King's life, dream and legacy.

|Prioritize Your Goals|
When trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle, you need to make sure that you don't set goals that conflict. It's best to prioritize and work toward one goal at a time.
If you have a performance goal to complete a 10-mile run, you need to make sure that you are fueling your body properly with the right amount of calories so you have enough energy to perform. It's better to take in a few extra calories than not enough. If you try to cut your calories too much while training, you could not only inhibit your performance, but may cause your metabolism to slow down, which can result in weight gain.
If your goal is to lose weight, then your focus should be on balancing the number of calories you take in versus the calories you burn through daily activity, exercise and rest. Your goal is to burn more calories than you consume. Your exercise should be at a light to moderate intensity level, depending on your doctor's recommendations.
