coffeebreakIntranet Launched!
Consultant BerryDunn conducted a comprehensive IT assessment at Averett last year, and one of the recommendations was that an intranet website should be established to improve internal communications and disseminate employee-specific information. The IT department has established an intranet site at myinfo.averett.edu using a content management system, which allows content editors in various departments and offices to edit their own content.

The site is in its first phase of development. The President's Council has identified content editors for offices and departments, and this week, the content editors are receiving training and are beginning to add content to their pages.

The intranet is password-protected, so employees will need to log in with their usual Averett username and password to view the site. Any issues related to the intranet should be reported to the IT HelpDesk using the category labeled "intranet."

coffeebreakMovin' on Up
The instructional technology web pages have moved and are now incorporated into the new intranet site. If you had set any bookmarks or favorites, they will need to be updated. In addition, since the intranet is password-protected, you will need to log in with your Averett username and password. The new intranet is located at myinfo.averett.edu.

Visit the instructional technology pages for software how-to videos and register for hands-on workshops. Upcoming workshops include CamStudio (March 13 & 14), Moodle Gradebook (March 19), Moodle Activities (March 20) and Cloud Apps for File Storage and Sharing (March 28).

coffeebreakHorsing Around

coffeebreakCelebrating International Women's Day
Don't forget about the upcoming event hosted by the Women's Leadership Circle on Tuesday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room. coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight Series
The Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program has a Student Spotlight program. Each month, the academic advisors pick a student from each campus and have the student answer a few questions about his or her experience here at Averett.

Meet Keith Newnam, who will graduate in December.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree from Averett?
I am inspired by my family. Completing my undergraduate degree has been a dream since the mid-80s. Life has offered challenges, and years have passed. Both of my daughters have just recently graduated college and it was time for me to finish what I started 30 years ago. I have the support and encouragement from my family and my company's leadership, so I am finishing this journey.

What do you like most about your degree program?
I enjoy the GPS structure. Weekly face-to-face meetings keep me engaged at a commitment level that I can manage. I treat these responsibilities like a business meeting that I attend weekly and need to be prepared for. The program mirrors business life and is manageable. Additionally, I really like the flow from class to class. I know exactly where I need to be to see this to conclusion. I don't have to worry about registering for classes and changing schedules. This is a very well structured program.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students?
I believe the secret to success in this program is teamwork. The study group dynamic is similar to committees and teams in an organization. Partnering with quality people and pulling your own weight is a positive formula for success. I am fortunate to have an awesome study group team and I will share this graduation success with them.

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight Series
Meet Wanda Gonzalez, who will graduate in the spring of 2014.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree from Averett?
It was on my bucket list and I felt that after encouraging my four daughters to get an education that I should do the same and set an example for my grandchildren.

What do you like most about your degree program?
I like that we are in small groups and everyone helps and supports each other.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students?
When you feel like giving up, share your thoughts with someone who has encouraged you, and they will pull you through.
