|ASIST Suicide Prevention Training|
The Campus Suicide Prevention Center of Virginia, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health, will host the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Program (ASIST) at Averett on May 8 and 9.
ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed to help people recognize risk for suicide, intervene to prevent immediate harm and link "at-risk" people to appropriate levels of care. ASIST is considered suicide prevention "first aid," and is used on university campuses by counselors, case managers, campus security, residence hall directors, campus ministry and all those (including faculty) who provide direct service to others within the campus community.
Due to the support of the Virginia Department of Health's Division of Injury and Violence Prevention, this training is being offered at Averett at no cost to participants. |Use Moodle to Enhance Face-to-Face Courses|
Faculty, have you started using Moodle to support your face-to-face traditional courses yet? If not, explore the possibilities of leveraging our learning management system to enhance teaching and learning:
• Eliminate paper handouts completely by providing your syllabus and learning materials online.
• Extend class discussion and get students writing by using an online discussion forum as a homework assignment.
• Have students submit their assignments electronically and grade them online using a rubric.
Begin by registering for hands-on Moodle workshops. During the two weeks following Commencement, workshops are offered on the Main Campus in Moodle Basics, Gradebook (which includes setting up an assignment), Activities (with a focus on Chat and Forum), Rubrics and Quizzes. |Book Sale at Blount Library|
Need a break from grading and the office routine, or just any excuse to stroll in fine spring weather? Visit Blount Library on your walk and browse our continuous book sale. Books recently removed from academic and leisure reading collections, plus duplicate gift books are available for $1 per hardbound volume and 50 cents per paperback. Book sale proceeds enhance library resources for Averett students.

Nancy Clark's quilt exhibit in the library will conclude on May 1. Come and see these quilts while you still have the chance. In addition to the quilts in the display case, there is one quilt hung on the back wall of the library. Please congratulate Nancy on creating these lovely works!

2. Click Averett Fac/Staff Login (click here first)
3. Enter your usual login and password
4. Click Groups & Committees
5. Click Staff Council
6. Click the meeting minutes you want to read
7. When you're finished, click Logout (upper right corner)

|Eat at Sweet Frog: Support Senior Class|
The Senior Class wants to purchase a bronze cougar statue to be placed on the Main Campus. Please support them by going to Sweet Frog on Friday, April 19, and tell them you are supporting the Averett Senior Class! A portion of the proceeds from that day will support the senior class' efforts.
