coffeebreakEquestrian Summer Camp
The Averett Equestrian Center is happy to announce its first summer camp program, June 17-21, for students age 8-15. Whether your child has ridden before or is a complete beginner, our camp has something for every horse crazy kid out there!

The day camp will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and focuses on riding and horse care skills. Space is limited, so please contact Cricket Morris at (434) 770-2941 for a registration packet or more information.

coffeebreakRegister for Advanced Emergency Training
Attention emergency coordinators, registration for advanced emergency management training is still open. The training will be held May 20-22, May 28-30 and June 3-5. All sessions will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. in Blount Chapel. Participants must attend all nine workshops as the modules are built on one another - the final workshop serves as the skills certification.

If you have not already done so, send Kathie Tune an email to register for the May-June training program.

coffeebreakSummer Fitness Center Hours
The fitness center will re-open on Monday, May 6, and summer hours will be as follows:

Monday-Friday, 4-8 p.m.
Closed on the weekends

For any questions, please email Carly Pearce at carly.pearce@averett.edu.

coffeebreakUsing Cloud Apps for Collaboration and Storage
Staff, do you need to collaborate with others to prepare documents or presentations? Faculty, would you like your students to work together to develop team papers, projects or presentations? Free cloud apps can allow group members to collaborate online by building a wiki, chatting synchronously, sharing files, drawing on a shared whiteboard and more!

Or cloud apps can just be used for storage. Instead of carrying a flash drive to the classroom or from home to the office, access your course presentations and files online from anywhere.

To learn more about cloud apps and gain some firsthand experience, register here for a one-hour workshop - Cloud Apps for File Storage and Sharing at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 9.

coffeebreakBookstore Summer Hours
The Schoolfield House Booksellers will have reduced hours for the summer beginning Monday, April 29 through Friday, Aug. 9.
Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sunday: 12 p.m.-3 p.m.

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
Meet April Dovel, a MBA student who will graduate in August.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree from Averett?
My main motivation for obtaining my degree is to be able to move into a management level in my current profession in the mental health field.

What do you most like about your degree program?
I enjoy the convenience that the MBA program offers me. I am able to maintain my full-time job while completing the program as full-time student.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students?
Do not let self-doubt rule you.

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
Meet Troy Bartley, a BBA student who will graduate this December.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree from Averett?
My main drive to obtain a degree is to open as many career doors as possible. Having a degree in today's society is a requirement for many careers. Not having a degree puts you at a real disadvantage and I do not want that. Another motivation to obtain my degree is my children. Like many others who have children, I want to set the example for them to emulate.

What do you most like about your degree program?
The GPS Program gives me the ability to obtain a degree while being able to provide, enjoy and care for my family. This was very important in my decision on which university to attend. I am thankful that I discovered the GPS Program here at Averett.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students? The courses are very short and the material covered is extensive, but not unbearable. You need to stay focused on your schoolwork and do it as early as you can. This alleviates all issues that will undoubtedly come if you wait until the last minute.
