coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
The Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program has a Student Spotlight program. Each month, the academic advisors pick a student from each campus and have the student answer a few questions about his or her experience here at Averett.

Meet Jianna Atkinson, an MBA student who anticipates graduating in April 2015.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree with AU?
My motivation is to better myself career-wise and to encourage future job opportunities. These days a bachelor's degree is what a high-school diploma was years ago. Higher education is becoming necessary.

What do you most like about your degree program?
The weekly class sessions are the main reason I chose Averett. I learn best through lecture and classroom interaction. That, and I've had friends graduate from Averett and they recommended the program.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students?
Oh, boy. Just do it. But, there's no time! Okay...well, if not now, then when?
My cluster and I are a quarter of the way through the program. The teachers, faculty and staff have been helpful and accommodating.

Bonus tips: You will get along wonderfully with most fellow classmates, reasonably well with some and maybe just maybe question the emotional capacity of others. The main thing is – you're going to learn something from everyone. Do the work and have fun!

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
Robert Truly is a BBA student. He anticipates graduating in the spring of 2016.

What is your motivation for obtaining your degree with AU?
My motivation for obtaining my degree is to set an example for my daughter that higher education is important. Regardless of our age, we should always be learning and remain open minded while pursuing an education.

What do you most like about your degree program?
The GPS Program has been an awesome experience because it allows one to still have a family life and career, and further one's education at the same time thanks to the class scheduling and teamwork environment.

What advice do you have for your fellow classmates and future AU students?
My tip for future students at our university is to use your time wisely and stay in close contact with your peer study group members. Teamwork makes the dream work!
