|Engage Students with Empathy|
Did you know that demonstrating empathy toward your students is a factor in persistence? Two easy ways to show your students that you care about them on a personal level, whether in a face-to-face or an online class, are:
1. Learn and use your students' names. Make a regular habit of addressing your students by name during class, when you see them on campus, when you send emails, when you interact in Moodle discussion forums and when writing feedback on assignments.
2. Keep an eye on the AU website and local news for your students' names so you can recognize their accomplishments. When you find an article, bring it to class to show everyone (use the document camera, if available) or post a link to the article in your Moodle course.
