|CAB's February Trips|
The office of student engagement and leadership development is sponsoring two trips on Feb. 15. One is to the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro and the other is to see Les Misérables at a theater in Raleigh. |IRIE Candidate on Campus|
Pam McKirdy, a candidate for the director of institutional research and effectiveness position, will be on campus this Thursday, Feb. 6. Pam will make a presentation and answer questions during an open session from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Frith 403. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.
|Title IX: Pass it On!|
Join us as we celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day on Wednesday, Feb. 12 during a women's home basketball game at 6 p.m. During half-time, student-athletes − both men and women − will participate in a 6-on-6 basketball game under the pre-Title IX rules of women's basketball. |Join the IT Book Club|
Would you like to enhance your teaching effectiveness? Participate in this spring's Instructional Technology (IT) Book Club, which offers intellectual stimulation in casual, collegial, small-group discussions. Everyone who teaches for Averett, whether full-time, part-time or adjunct, is invited to participate.
The spring book selection is Ken Bain's "What the Best College Teachers Do." Participants will meet in Danville starting the week of Feb. 17 and will determine meeting days and times as well as meeting regularity. A copy of the book will be provided to each participant. |Grand Opening Reminder|
On Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. the University will hold a grand opening to celebrate the completion of the phase one renovations of the Pritchett Fine Arts Center. All faculty and staff are invited to join the University for this exciting event.
Head Volleyball Coach Danny Miller '91, '95 has been promoted to associate director of athletics. He has been the assistant director of athletics for compliance and operations since 2009. Congratulations, Danny! To read the rest of the story on the athletics website, please click here.
|New Director of AT Named|
Congratulations to Dr. Carrie Hendrick, who will assume the position of director of athletic training in the fall, and will be a full-time faculty member. Carrie is currently our head athletic trainer.
We also congratulate Dr. Lee Burton whose business has grown so successfully that he finds himself needing more time there. We are so grateful that he will remain affiliated with Averett and will spend time with students in the program several hours a week.
A warm Averett welcome is extended to:
Sarah Pressley, course developer for the nursing program. She taught at Danville Regional's School of Nursing for nearly 20 years, serving as an obstetrics instructor. Sarah and her husband live in Danville. He is the pastor of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.
