The book "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandburg is focused on encouraging women to pursue their ambitions, and changing the conversation from what we can't do to what we can do. Be a part of our own Averett University Lean In group.

This group will be committed to offering women the ongoing inspiration and support to help them achieve their goals. Our Lean In Circle will be a small group that will meet monthly to encourage and support each other in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust.

If you are interested in learning about being a part of Averett University's Lean In Circle, please join us on Thursday, March 6 at 4:30 p.m. at the home of Dr. Tiffany Franks to learn more about purchasing the book and what our circle will entail.

coffeebreakReflections on Pakistan
Please join senior Faran Asif on Monday, March 3 from 4-4:30 p.m. as he takes us on a journey through Pakistan. Having been abroad for several years, Faran returned home to Pakistan over winter break and discovered aspects of his country he had previously overlooked.

"I felt like a tourist in my own country, and this presentation will be filled with insights and images from this moving experience," Faran said.

If you are interested in discovering a new land or simply enjoy supporting our students, please join ESL Programs in the conference room on the fourth floor of the Student Center for this wonderful cultural experience.

If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Raab director of ESL programs and writing support at Averett.

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
The Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program has a Student Spotlight program. Each month, the academic advisors pick a student from each campus and have the student answer a few questions about his or her experience here at Averett.

Meet Pamela Thomas, a BBA student who will graduate in August.

What was your original motivation for obtaining your degree?
My desire to obtain my degree has always been a lifelong dream of mine. I work in a large institution that values education.

Why did you choose Averett's GPS Program?
I chose Averett's GPS program for the flexibility it offers adult learners.

Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students:
One major take away is that you have to a have a strong team. Everyone on your team comes with different strengths and weaknesses - help each other.

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
My motivation comes from my team. We give each other encouragement when we feel down.

coffeebreakAU Student Spotlight
Meet Craig Thornberry, a MBA student, who looks forward to completing his degree in April 2015.

What was your original motivation for obtaining your degree?
My motivation was to further my professional career with a master's program. The degree program helps to advance my career at my organization.

Why did you choose Averett's GPS Program?
Averett University provided a strong after work educational environment. Their VA benefits office representative provided great guidance on the Post 9-11 GI program in which I enrolled.

Please share one tip for your fellow classmates and future AU students:
Communication with Averett advisors, professors and fellow students will be important in a productive career getting an education. Then again, communication, collaboration and self-evaluation are important to all endeavors.

What helps to keep you motivated while you are in the program?
My wife and family have been my biggest motivators.
