coffeebreakDan River Autism Awareness 5K
Averett is sponsoring and participating in the third annual Dan River Autism Awareness 5K. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to assist local families/individuals on the autism spectrum. All registration fees for the event go toward the fundraising goal for The Dan River Regional Autism Fund. We encourage you to take part, not only for the personal benefit, but for the overall value of supporting our local community's families!

You do not have to run. Heck, you don't even have to walk in the "timed" walk! It's truly about participation and engagement. Simply fill out the form online, pick AU 4 ASD as your team name and show your investment in our community and Averett University!

If you have any questions/comments contact Jill Hamlin at jhamlin@averett.edu or by calling 434-791-7240. Click here for the online registration form.

The email will be from Modern Think and is called The Higher Education Insight Survey 2014.

coffeebreakProfessor Speaks at Marymount University
Lee Sandstead, assistant professor of art, was one of two guest speakers at Marymount University in Arlington last week. James Percoco, an inductee to the National Teacher's Hall of Fame and director of education for the new WWII Memorial in Washington D.C., spoke along with Lee. Lee and James discussed monuments and memory from the American Revolution and Civil War.

"It's opportunities like these that can really help Averett," said Lee. "Through my new contact, James Percoco, Averett students have an open invitation to go behind the scenes of the WWII Memorial as lead by a master educator."

Lee is currently exploring options for a trip to National Mall this fall, if you have any students who might be interested, please contact him via email at lsandste@averett.edu.
