August 2012 I recently had the opportunity to attend one of the closing ceremonies for PASSPORT, which is a mission camp where 900 middle and high schoolers volunteered throughout our community over a three-week period. I wish you could have heard these young people tell about their experiences serving in our community and the impact their time here will have on their lives. Even though I have the opportunity to interact with young people on a daily basis, hearing these young leaders of tomorrow share their stories left me inspired with such a feeling of promise for our future. It was an honor for Averett to be selected to host PASSPORT and our community can enjoy this mission for the next two summers. In July, Averett received great news. We learned of our approval from our accrediting agency to offer the bachelor of science in nursing program to registered nurses. This approval is an important milestone and we are thrilled the University will be able to educate the next generation of nursing leaders in our region and beyond. August is such an exciting month in the life of Averett University as we welcome new students into our family and welcome back returning students. As we gear up for a new academic year and all of the excitement that entails, I invite you to drop in and join us. There is no more exciting place to be at this time of year.
