October 2012 There is exciting news to share this month! Averett has once again been recognized in U.S. News and World Report's 2013 Best Colleges rankings — we jumped up seven spots to 27th among Regional Colleges (South). We are also recognized for the third consecutive year by G.I. Jobs magazine as a "military friendly" school. Endorsements from third parties such as these serve as an affirmation that your Hometown University is making a difference in the lives of our students as we prepare them for their bold futures. Homecoming is around the corner, and I hope to see you at many of our festivities. We are once again hosting our Homecoming Hometown Party, which is open to everyone, on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Community Market. On Saturday, our football team takes on Christopher Newport University at 1 p.m. at the North Campus. (More information about the exciting events taking place that weekend can be found below.) I am pleased to announce we have signed another articulation agreement with Danville Community College (DCC) that will allow their students to transfer to Averett for admission into our business administration degree programs (both the traditional and the Graduate and Professional Studies Program). We see this as yet another way for Averett and DCC to partner for the benefit of helping people throughout our region earn their baccalaureate degree. We continue to enroll students for our new online programs — master of business administration, bachelor of business administration and criminal justice. For more information about these programs, or to enroll, call 1-800-849-0115. In addition, for any registered nurses who are interested in pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing degree, we are enrolling students for the spring semester. For more information about our nursing program, call 434-791-7111. Also this month we will be making a public announcement regarding our capital campaign. I look forward to sharing with all of you in the coming months the exciting enhancements and new programs we have planned for our future, a future that will not just impact us, but the Danville region as well. A special welcome back to all of our returning alumni. I hope we'll see you all around campus this month! Happy Homecoming!
