Summer has blazed by again and we are preparing the start of another exciting and action-packed academic year at Averett University.   A glance at the school calendar shows August is a month of beginnings and events that will live in the memory of our approximately 325 new students and their parents who will join us in a few weeks.   Our supportive local community provides the backdrop for those memories, and I invite each of you to taste the excitement of these new beginnings at your hometown university.

I want to draw your attention to several upcoming events specifically: our annual Neighborhood Coffee event scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 10 in Jut's Café in the Student Center; the Aug. 20 opening of our new Averett University bookstore, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at 354 West Main Street; and the Averett Hometown Homecoming event, on Oct. 1.Finally, students tell me how much it means to feel welcomed back to our area by the community.    If you would be willing to display an Averett pennant, banner or sign, we can help.
