April is one of the most energizing months at Averett University.   Hundreds of students are in the final push, preparing to graduate, pursuing their job search and looking forward to the next chapter of their lives.   Averett's 2011 Spring Commencement on Saturday, April 30, will feature as our guest speaker a leader familiar to the Averett community and many in our city - Dr. Stephen Ausband.   Between now and Commencement, much remains to be done and many memories will be made - just ask any senior!   Last weekend provided one of those memories-in-the-making, as Joshua Fox, '11, traveled with the Honors Program to present at the 39th Annual Conference of the Southern Regional Honors Council, in Little Rock, Ark.   Another upcoming memorable experience is a unique Arts@Averett production April 8-10.  Averett equestrian studies students will perform "Around the World in 80 Days" at the University's Equestrian Center.   The production will showcase horses and riders performing together to a variety of music from America, India, Spain and Italy.

April follows a month that had its own share of growth and change.   Last week we hosted a media conference at our future Riverview Campus in Danville's Historic Tobacco Warehouse District.   Learn more about this renovation and partnership with the Danville Regional Foundation and the city at www.facebook.com/danvilleriverview.  We continue to move forward in our expanded health sciences initiative, and I am pleased to share that Dr. Kathleen Quinn has joined Averett as our new chair of nursing education as part of this program expansion.

I do hope you are enjoying the arrival of spring and I hope to see you on campus soon.
