On April 30, almost 300 students from campuses around Virginia gathered at the Grant Center in Danville to receive their Averett diplomas.Congratulations to our newest graduates, and to their families!Meanwhile, Averett is not slowing down for the summer.Classes continue at our Adult Professional locations and our Danville campus is abuzz with a different kind of activity.Renovation continues at our Riverview Campus in Danville's Historic Tobacco Warehouse District. In Main Hall, which celebrates its 100th birthday this year, construction is underway to build Averett Central - one convenient location for the offices of the Registrar, Student Accounts and Financial Aid. While we hold classes around the state, Averett is dedicated to transforming southern Virginia. That's why I was so humbled at last week's Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, where Averett received the first-ever Pinnacle Award for advancing the Danville-Pittsylvania County region with innovation, excellence and entrepreneurial leadership. What made the moment especially touching was that moments earlier the teacher of the year recipients had been announced, and more than half of those honored were Averett alumni. If you have the chance, feel free to visit Averett and see what we're up to this summer.
