Homecoming 2011 at your Hometown University featured crisp fall weather and more than 400 returning alumni, family and friends mingling with each other and our students at events on and off campus.Our Hometown Homecoming party featured live music and great food at Danville's historic Community Market.We celebrated 100 years of Main Hall with a full schedule of hard-contested fall sports events and many more activities.Mark your calendars now: Homecoming 2012 is scheduled for October 19-21.As the weather changes, we look forward to our seasonal traditions like the Halloween Trick or Treat Averett hosts for local children and our Averett Celebrates Christmas community event on Nov. 29. In the meantime, there is plenty happening at Averett and plenty to do.Our expanded health sciences initiative is gaining momentum and continues to receive positive support from the community.Most recently, the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission granted Averett $300,000 toward the simulation labs that will give our health sciences students access to cutting-edge learning technologies.And, speaking of things to do: if your plans for this weekend are still open, please note that on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Pritchett Auditorium will resonate with the sounds of the Spectrum Brass Quintet.Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.
