Inclement Weather Process

Here is how you can find out if Averett will be closed or delayed (10:00 a.m. start) because of inclement weather:

AU Alert - Get a text message to your mobile device, and an email to your personal/work email address. Inclement weather notices will be sent by 6:30 a.m. However, please note that different carriers may take varying times to distribute AU Alert messages.

• All employees should register for AU Alert, since this is our primary alert for all emergencies, not just inclement weather. Employees need to sign up again each year for AU Alert. To sign-up for AU Alert, or for more info, visit: www.averett.edu/safety

Front Page Banner - In case of a closing or delayed opening at our Danville campus, a banner will scroll across the top of the home page with the closing information.

Weather alerts pages - In case of a closing or delayed opening at any of our campuses outside of Danville, a notice will be posted on our Weather Alert pages, which are accessible via the last link on the left hand side bar of our home page, or at: http://www.averett.edu/myaverett/weather

TV / Radio stations - Watch or listen to one of the following channels to get updates on AU closings or late openings:

• TV Stations: WSET-13 ABC News (Lynchburg/Danville), WDBJ-7 CBS News (Roanoke/Danville), WMFY-2 CBS News (Greensboro), WSLS-10 NBC News (Roanoke)

Voicemail - Check your own office voicemail after 6:30 a.m.

Switchboard- Call the Averett main line, at 434-791-5600, after 6:30 a.m.

Broadcast e-mails:AU News will send all employees a closing notification to their work email if we decide to close our Danville campus early, or decide the day prior to close / open late the following day in Danville.
