Title: Student Financial Services Counselor–GPS Department: Financial Aid Location: Main Campus, Danville, Virginia
Position Description/Application Process Averett University invites applications for an experienced financial aid professional. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or other related field and a minimum of 1-3 years of financial aid experience at a private or public institution. Prior experience in handling high-volume, time sensitive processes in a manner that is attentive to customer needs. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively. Strong interpersonal skills, an attention to detail and an ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.
Candidates should possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including well-developed writing and speaking skills. The right candidate must possess the ability to work in a team environment. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative and effective in working with other University Departments. Skill in computer applications is crucial. Must have a working knowledge of electronic sources of financial aid data and information used by the U.S. Department of Education.
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or other related field and a minimum of 1-3 years of financial aid experience at a private or public institution.
Responsibilities include providing nontraditional, working adult and professional students with timely and accurate information as to available options for financial aid; Assist population of students in completion of their aid applications. Package and process student financial aid requests in an efficient, accurate and timely manner, adhering to all federal, state and University regulations and guidelines. Review and process verification; submit corrections in federal database. Communicate effectively with students, campus administrators and to ensure a high level of customer service to all staff. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, and database management software. Perform follow-up activities as needed to resolve issues and other duties as assigned.
Must participate in all University events that require Financial Aid Department representation including, but not limited to; Orientations, Open Houses, and Student Recruitment Events. Evenings and weekends may be required during certain times of the year.
Work Schedule: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday-Friday. Evenings and week-ends may be required during certain times of the year.
