Title: Director of Career Development
Department: Academic Affairs

Position Description/Application Process
Working in the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness, the Director of Career Development provides leadership and direction for comprehensive career planning to Averett University students and alumni. The Director encourages career exploration and self-assessment by providing support, resources, counseling, and networking opportunities.

Qualifications include:
> Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred • 3+ years experience leading student development initiatives, including advising/leading students and developing partnerships • Ability to articulate an understanding of the higher education landscape and the trends related to career development in higher education • Knowledge of current issues and best practices in career development • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to communicate the CCECC’s capacity for engagement in the region • Understanding of the university's mission, goals and strategic priorities • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy, as well as organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail and follow through • Excellent counseling and advising skills • Strong relationship-building, networking and leadership skills • Effective oral and written communication skills

Duties include:
> Responsibilities: • Counsel students on an individual and group basis concerning career planning and preparedness • Identify students’ needs regarding career planning, employment, graduate school and scholarships and adapt services to meet those needs • Provide students with manual and computerized career assessment services to evaluate interests, strengths, and preferences • Maintain the CSM software package to share career development opportunities among students, alumni and employers • Create, market, and implement an annual calendar of dynamic workshops and events that develop students as young professionals • Promote opportunities for students to network with community leaders • Plan and implement job fairs and on-campus recruiting events • Establish strong relationships with faculty and staff to determine priorities for the career center and establish department policies • Work with Student Financial Services to coordinate assignments for the Federal Work Study program • Work with Alumni Relations to coordinate career-related events for current students and alumni • Monitor monthly budget activity • Supervise work study staff • Participate in community outreach activities to foster mutually-beneficial relationships with community organizations and businesses • Serve as the point of contact for the university’s career development program; work with students, faculty and community partners to develop career opportunities that are aligned with degree studies • Collect data and analyze results relevant to the career planning and placement of students and alumni • Create marketing material and promote career opportunities to students, alumni, employers and community partners • Work closely with the webmaster to maintain and update the career development website • Establish a strong social media presence and regularly update the content • Serve as the chief representative for career development in various professional and community settings • Understand the labor market, occupational trends and career theories, models and techniques

Title: Coordinator of Student Engagement and Leadership D
Department: Student Life

Position Description/Application Process
The Coordinator of Student Engagement and Leadership Development is a twelve-month position reporting to the Dean of Students with responsibilities that foster the development of a campus environment that promotes student and community development.

Qualifications include:
> Bachelor’s degree field required. History of active involvement in campus activities and student leadership roles as an undergraduate is required. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of student and campus constituents and an understanding of how campus activities planning and student development theory serve as an integral part of student leader development is required. Commitment to student learning and promoting an understanding of the value of diversity is required.

Duties include:
>  Advise the Cougar Activities Board (programming board). Provide student leader training, event planning support, and oversight of budget management. Coordinate travel to regional or national NACA conference for leadership of CAB.  Manage the programming office budget of approximately $120,000.  Coordinate, with the Student Government Association, oversight of Averett’s student organizations. Provide leadership training for the organizations and event planning and budget management support to student organizations arranging social, recreational, educational, and cultural events on campus. Provide training and support to organization advisors.  Provide leadership to the university’s new student orientation program. Includes selection, training, and supervision of student orientation leaders; coordination and development of transition materials for newly admitted students; communication and coordination with university departments to create, implement, and evaluate summer, fall, and spring orientation programs.  Provide leadership for campus-wide programming, in collaboration with student organizations, offices, and departments, including intentional activities during the first six weeks of each semester, and late night and weekend events, campus activities, and assistance with major university events (fall opening, homecoming, etc.) throughout the rest of the academic year. Includes coordination with other offices and student groups, and assessment of programs.  Negotiate contracts with booking agents for acts brought to campus by student organizations, and coordinate the management of contracts for other campus departments and events  Manage the daily operations of the University Student Center. Select, train, and manage student building manager staff, coordinate preparations and set-up for events in the facility; assist with the management and continued development of student meeting, lounge, and recreation spaces  Advise the university’s Greek Life system. Directly advise the Inter-Greek Council, provide leadership to individual organizations; coordinate new expansion efforts of the Greek Life system.  Participate in campus-wide programming as a representative of student interests and/or the Dean of Students office on college committees  Manage the daily operations of the University Fitness Center. Select, train, and manage student staff.  Attend Student Life Staff meetings.  The opportunity exists to serve as an instructor for a section of the university’s IDS (Freshman Success) class in the fall semester.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Averett University of Danville, Virginia, invites applications for the position of Controller. The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and leads a team charged with the financial stewardship of the University including accounting, financial reporting, cash management, endowment management, payroll and benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, audit, tax compliance, asset management and mail services.

Qualifications include:
> The position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field (certified public accountant and/or master’s degree preferred); eight (8) years of related experience (higher education experience preferred); advance computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and enterprise resource planning systems (Financial Edge Administration System experience preferred); self-starter with high degree of initiative; proven ability to communicate effectively; and proven ability to plan, direct and evaluate a complex operation using manpower, time, funds and other resources for the accomplishment of long and short term goals.

Duties include:

Position Description/Application Process
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Services (CIO), this position is responsible for providing a “best in class” information technology and facilities experience for faculty, staff and students at the university’s regional campuses including: (1) supporting the computer, audio visual and telephony hardware, connectivity, and various higher education software applications; (2) ensuring the facilities are open, clean, and functional, and; (3) supervising the Facility Monitors in achieving items (1) and (2) and that they are trained to respond to emergency situations. Thoroughly ensures all work performed by the Facility Monitors is completed and placed into the appropriate call-tracking medium and provides reports and statistical analysis upon request. Travels between Averett’s regional campuses and main campus as required. Participates in project development and roll out implementation, and provides other services as appropriate and assigned by CIO.

Qualifications include:

Duties include:
> Duties include, but are not limited to: • Weekly travel between regional campuses and main campus as required; • Plan and coordinate regional campuses related technology support services and day-to-day activities of the facility monitors; • Assure the reliable and efficient operation of all workstations and audio-visual equipment and ensures effective scheduling of audio-visual equipment in support of administrative and instructional programs at regional campuses; • Monitor help desk software in relation to regional campuses technology issues; monitor its performance and produce appropriate reports and statistical data; • Recruit, hire, train and supervise Facility Monitors. • Coordinate the Facility Monitors involvement in the diagnosis, repair, configuration, installation and maintenance of workstations and audio-visual equipment; • Develop work schedule for Facility Monitors. • Monitor time, attendance, and evaluate the performance of the Facility Monitors, providing feedback, guidance, and training as required; • Develop, exercise and assess facility safety and emergency procedures. • Conduct facility safety inspections. • Perform duties of Facility Monitors in their absence. • Perform minor maintenance and repair activities. • All other duties as assigned.
