Title: Director of Marketing and Communications

Title: Technical Director / Audio Engineer
Department: Theatre

Position Description/Application Process
The Technical Director / Audio Engineer (TD/AE) is a full time position. This is a 10 month Modified Fiscal Year position paid with a competitive benefits package on a 12-month schedule. The work schedule is August 1st – May 31st. Qualifications include:

Duties include:

  • The TD/AE will be responsible for Scenery construction, light hang and focus, and audio engineering and implementation for all Theatre department shows.
  • The TD/AE is responsible for maintenance of facility equipment. Candidate may be asked to instruct lower level production courses and labs.
  • They will also be responsible for training, supervision, and evaluation of student technical staff for all Theatre Department shows and Arts at Averett Series events on campus.
  • The TD/AE will also provide support for the sound at Averett University functions including staff and faculty meeting, convocation and events where Averett Administrators are speaking.
  • The TD/AE will act as the primary contact with visiting artists, rental companies, outside contractors and other university departments regarding the use of equipment, and systems within the Theatre departments facilities.

  • The Costume Shop Supervisor / Costume Designer will be responsible for managing the operation of the costume shop and producing costumes for Theatre Department productions.
  • The candidate will be a positive role model / mentor for students, and represent the theatre department positively to the campus community.
  • They will also be responsible for training, supervision, and evaluation of students working in the costume shop and on running crews.
  • Candidate may be asked to instruct lower level production courses and labs.

Coordinate and manage a variety of activities involved in operating the simulation equipment and labs; participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of simulator training to healthcare professionals. Develop and conduct complex simulation exercises and perform analysis and provide technical reports. Act as the primary liaison for simulation lab concerning design, application, operation, maintenance, training, reliability and performance of medical and simulation equipment. Assist and participate in departmental functions to enhance educational activities for student learning and engagement with the University. Duties include:

  • • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other personnel to develop and coordinate education, laboratory and research projects. • Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation application technologies, including underlying educational principals.

Title: Director of Autism Studies
Department: Academic Affairs

Position Description/Application Process
Averett University in Danville, Virginia, seeks applicants for a Director of Autism Studies to begin immediately. Averett currently offers three courses in autism which can be submitted to the Virginia Autism Council for certification and has established the Carrington Autism Resource Center (CARC) to support educators and caregivers. The director will be charged with developing a program that establishes Averett as a center for excellence in autism studies in the region by enhancing the knowledge of people working with children and adults with autism. This 12-month position is grant funded for two years, with the expectation that the director will grow the program and that it will be sustainable when the grant funding is exhausted. Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vita, cover letter detailing how the candidate’s qualifications meet the requirements of the position, three letters of recommendation from persons who can attest to the applicant’s qualifications for the position, and unofficial transcripts to autism@averett.edu. Application deadline is May 31, 2012. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in special education or applied behavior analysis and possess the competencies identified by the Virginia Autism Council at the advanced degree/program developer/specialist level (September 15, 2010).
  • The following credentials are plusses: Holding the BCBA or BCBA-D certification, higher education teaching experience, experience in diagnosis and research related to ASD, and grant-writing/fund raising experience.
  • A terminal degree in other fields closely related to ASD treatment/therapy/research may also be considered.
  • In addition, the applicant must have a minimum of three years of successful experience working with ASD individuals in a clinical setting using applied behavior analysis as the dominant intervention strategy along with other research-based, best-practice intervention services.
  • The individual must have program development experience, knowledge of technology related to ASD, and demonstrated ability to provide training (including professional workshops) and outreach consultation for professionals and families of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Duties include:

  • Promoting and growing enrollment in Averett’s courses in autism
  • Utilizing and expanding partnerships in the region related to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

Title: Academic Advisor

Averett University seeks an experienced individual for a position in the Graduate & Professional Studies program. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for academic and admissions advisement for all new and continuing students throughout their academic program. Located in our Central Virginia region, the Academic Advisor works under the supervision of the regional Director of Academic Services. The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing academic advising for all new and continuing students throughout their academic program. These positions serve as the liaisons between the student and university regarding all policies and procedures. The Academic Advisor is a salaried position with benefits and is based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Qualifications include:

  • A bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, student development, business, education, or related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, prioritize work flow, work well with minimum supervision, and accept responsibility for total task completion is required.
  • Experience in student affairs, admissions, or student support services is also desired.
  • Proven experience in an education environment working with academic programs, policies, and procedures is a plus.
  • Candidates not currently holding a master's degree will be required to enroll in a master's program in a related field within six months of initial hire date.
  • Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to interact and communicate effectively with students and adult program personnel with regard to college/university policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Two years of experience in academic advising, student services, social services, communications, training and development, or related positions required.

Duties include:

  • Conducts undergraduate academic advisement in order to: a) must be able to travel to Charlottesville Campus, b) advise students of admission and degree completion requirements; c) review with students the various degree completion options and assist students in preparing a degree completion plan; d) an awareness of the assessment of prior learning process; and e) provide general student services information. Requires complete understanding of program requirements, available courses, national standardized exams, and other options.
  • Monitors academic and enrollment progress of students to ensure that students comply with adult studies policies and procedures; plays lead role in communicating with and advising students who have academic or attendance problems.
  • Advise students in the following areas: academic probation, academic suspension, poor performance, program completion, extensions, concurrent enrollment, and prerequisite course work.
  • Coordinates student retention and re-entry process with retention coordinator. This includes analyzing reports, distributing retention information to Director and Dean, and contacting students for re-entry advising.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and disseminates elective and supplemental curriculum information to students.
  • Coordinates student orientation process, ensuring all new students are oriented to Averett policies and services prior to starting the program.
