Title: Assistant Prof. full-time, tenure-track

Position Description/Application Process
Averett University’s English Department invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August, 2015. Early and Early Modern English Literature: The ideal candidate will have the reach to teach Shakespeare and Renaissance literature through the early modern period as well as medieval literature. Writing and Later British Literature: The ideal candidate will have expertise in creative and technical writing with the ability to teach a variety of courses in Later British Literature (Restoration/18th century to contemporary literature). Averett is looking to expand the number of English majors through the growth of a writing program. Assistant professor rank. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications include:

  • Both candidates must have a sound background in the teaching of composition to support the general education curriculum in addition to offering courses in the major. Candidates should have appropriate graduate education in the fields listed above, and priority will be given to those with a completed doctorate by the time of appointment. Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred. Background in one or more of the following areas—English education, technical writing, literary theory, service learning, minority writers, environment and literature, and women’s and gender studies—would be a plus.

Duties include:

  • The ideal candidates will teach general education, lower level and upper level major courses, and will be willing to teach in both face to face and online modalities. Faculty also participate in ongoing multidisciplinary curriculum development and assessment, engage in academic scholarship, and serve on appropriate university committees.



Work Schedule:
9 month teaching contract beginning mid-August and ending mid-May.

Title: Tenure-track, full-time position at the Assistant
Department: Psychology

Position Description/Application Process
Averett University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August, 2015. A Ph.D. in psychology is required by August 15, 2015. Applicants must be a psychology generalist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment, and a record of successfully teaching psychology to undergraduate and returning adult students. The applicant will teach lower level and upper division undergraduate courses in psychology, with specific teaching responsibilities including but not limited to: Psychology as a Natural Science, Biological/Physiological Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Learning Theory, Research Design and Research Practicum (with ancillary instruction/experience in SPSS), Psychological Measurement, and other courses in the applicant’s areas of interest. The typical teaching load is 24 credits per academic year and teaching may include both face to face and online modalities. The successful candidate will share in the vision that, at its core, psychology is ultimately a health care discipline, and will have the opportunity to help shape departmental course offerings as the program shifts focus from a primarily experimental and applied behavioral orientation, and embraces a holistic approach to health and wellness. Faculty also participate in ongoing multidisciplinary curriculum development and assessment, engage in academic scholarship, and serve on appropriate university committees.
