7. Retrieve Journal Articles
|
Your successful database searches will identify a mix of full text articles and citations with abstracts.
Simply look on the screen for links to full text, full text with graphics, HTML or PDF versions of the article, or citations with abstracts. Click on the article title for more details. |
|
Each full text database offers a way to format articles for saving to disk or printing in HTML or PDF format. PDF is preferred for your references because it is formatted exactly like the original publication, making it easy to cite page numbers. PDF also includes illustrations and tables sometimes omitted from the HTML version.
You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print PDF documents. |
Abstracts and Descriptors
|
To determine whether a cited article is related to your topic, read the abstract provided on the list of articles, or click on the title to view the abstract and citation details.
Subject headings or "descriptors" are clues to the subject matter of the article. A descriptor will often link to other articles on a particular aspect of the topic. |
|
For cited articles not available in full text, look for "Article Linker" or "Find it at Averett," which appear on the list of articles, or at the top or bottom of the full record display.
Many of the library's subscription databases are "OpenURL compliant," enabling you to browse to the article in another database or link directly to it. |
