We have been in regular contact with the Pittsylvania County Health Department during the fall and they advise that the supply of vaccine currently on hand will be used to service highest risk individuals, the youngest school aged children (elementary schools) and other CDC priority groups.

 

The Health Department has indicated the delivery of vaccine for this area is slow, but remains optimistic that adequate vaccine will be available to finish the initially targeted groups by the end of November.

 

We are in the process of setting up access to vaccines on the campus, through the Health Department in the next several weeks.

In the interim, you are encouraged to continue to exercise appropriate hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. Emphasize the importance of the basic foundations of flu prevention; stay home when sick, wash hands frequently with soap and water and cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or a shirt sleeve or elbow if no tissue is available).

 

To assist in this area the University has placed hand sanitizers in all restrooms and other public gathering areas and we have increased the schedules for cleaning of high-touch surfaces (for example, bathrooms, doorknobs, elevator buttons, and tables).

As more information is available, including a vaccination timetable, the University will use all vehicles of communication at our disposal to provide updates.
