"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" with a Twist

September 19, 2011

The Averett University Theatre Department will be presenting "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of the Black Forest" on September 22-23 at 7:30 p.m. and September 24 at 2:30 p.m.

This is not your traditional "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." While the majority of your favorite characters are here, some of them, the dwarfs for instance, go by different names. You will be introduced to the trio, Hickory, Dickory and Dock; Echo Echo, who does just that; Weepy, the weeper; Banjo who plays the banjo; and Curly, who is tall and has a head full of curls. Also in this classic fairy tale are new characters like Miss Time, whose father, Father Time, started the whole Once Upon a Time business.

This timeless classic has taken a modern approach, telling a story about acceptance and explaining the underlining moral that beauty isn't everything. Director of the play, Richard Breen, hopes the audience will leave the production knowing that it's okay to be different or look different, because "it's not always about beauty."

Based on the Grimm Brother's fairy tale this production was adapted by June Walker Rogers. For tickets call 434-791-5712, or get them at the door. Ticket prices are: adults $9, students/senior citizens $7. This production is open to the public.
