Women's Soccer Team Earns First-Ever Regional Ranking

October 5, 2011

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America's regional rankings ranked the women's soccer team for the first time in the program's history on Oct. 4. The Cougars (8-1, 2-0 USA South) are ranked 10th in the South Atlantic Region.

Averett is coming off a 3-0 week in which the Cougars beat a tough University of Mary Washington team, 3-1, on the road; then shut out defending USA South Conference champion Christopher Newport University, 5-0; and N.C. Wesleyan College, 4-0 on back-to-back days.

The Cougars' only loss this season was to Washington & Lee University, which is ranked fourth in the South Atlantic Region.

The team will play Friday, at 4 p.m. at Methodist University and on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Greensboro College.
