Virginia Opera to Perform March 21

March 13, 2012

The Danville area is in for a musical treat on Wednesday, March 21 when the Virginia Opera performs "An Evening of Opera and Broadway" at 7:30 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium as part of Averett University's Arts @ Averett Series. The performance is free and open to the public.

"An Evening of Opera and Broadway" features soaring opera arias and popular Broadway melodies from some of the world's greatest composers.

The Virginia Opera was organized in 1974 and held two productions in the Norfolk Center Theater. Since then, it has grown to four productions including 16 performances at the Edythe C. and Stanley L. Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, eight performances at the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage in Richmond and eight performances at George Mason University's Center for the Arts in Fairfax. It is the only opera company to perform regularly in three separate main stage venues and reaches more then 150,000 students and community members each year through its Education and Community Outreach Program.
