Student Art Show to Open March 24

March 16, 2012

The paint brush is to the artist like the pen is to the writer. Or as Georgia O'Keeffe once said, "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for." Displaying their talent for the visual word form, students at Averett University will be showcasing their work during the annual Student Art Show March 24 through April 14. The art show will be on display in the multipurpose room of the Student Center, which is located on the corner of Woodland Drive and Townes Street.

"The annual Student Art Show is an exciting time for students," said Diane Kendrick, art professor and chair of the department. "The opportunity to share creative work with friends and family encourages a dialogue about different ways of seeing. Students also have the opportunity to see their own work in a different space and to hear feedback both positive and negative."

The art show will feature a wide variety of work from art majors, art minors and other students who have taken art classes since the spring of 2011. Drawings, paintings sculptures, pottery and crafts will be featured with emphasis on a variety of techniques.

The art work that is for sale will include contact information for the student. Any work that is purchased cannot be removed until the end of the show.
