Education Majors Inducted into Honor Society

Averett University's Alpha Zeta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) held a ceremony April 21 in Blount Chapel to install new officers and initiate new members. KDP is an International Honor Society for education majors at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Ten students, from both the undergraduate and graduate levels were inducted into the society, which was chartered in 2010. Those inducted include: Leanne Cali Earp who is pursuing a master of education degree with an endorsement in art with teaching certification; Lori Beth Haynes a junior pursuing a bachelor's degree in liberal studies; Jessica Weadon Jones '07 who is pursuing a master of education degree with an endorsement in curriculum and instruction; Jonathan Melton who is pursuing a master of education degree with an endorsement in special education and an endorsement in elementary education grades PK-6; Manuel "Trey" Dodson, III '09 who is pursuing a master of education degree with an endorsement in history/social studies with teaching certification; Re'Shawn Woodson who graduated in April with a bachelor's degree in history/political science with teaching certification; Matthew Trent who is pursuing a master of education degree with an endorsement in English with teaching certification; Tiffany Branch who is a senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in liberal studies; Melana Cassell a senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in liberal studies; and Alexis Lynch a junior pursuing a bachelor's degree in liberal studies.

In addition to inducting its new members, the group also installed new chapter officers who include Dodson as president, Woodson as vice president and Trent as secretary-treasurer.

KDP is one of the largest and most prestigious education honor societies in the world with more than 500 active chapters.
