Theatre Department to Hold Auditions for "Chicago"

September 12, 2012

Averett University's theatre department is holding auditions for this year's musical production of the Tony Award winning musical, "Chicago," on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium. Interested persons of various ages are encouraged to try out. Please come prepared with two contrasting songs 30 seconds in length and a 30 second monologue. Auditionees may only be asked to sing one of the songs.

"Chicago," will be performed November 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and November 4 at 2:30 p.m. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, "Chicago" is a satire on the corruption in the criminal justice system and the concept of the celebrity criminal. The musical is based on a play of the same name written by a reporter for the Chicago Tribune – Maurine Dallas Watkins. Watkins wrote the play following her coverage of the trials of two murderesses in 1924.

For more information about the auditions please call Richard Breen at 434-791-5711.
