Paint the Town Blue and Gold!

October 2, 2012

There's a nip of fall in the air and football is in full swing, which means Homecoming is right around the corner. Averett will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 19-21, and a large number of our activities are open to the public.

On Friday, Oct. 19 the University will hold its annual Homecoming Hometown Party at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Market. This year's musical guest is the Pizazz Band. Tickets are $25 per person and include dinner from Outback Steakhouse and beverages from Lawrence Distributing. If you want to come to the party but don't have a babysitter, we have that covered. Childcare for children ages 5-16 will be provided by the Danville Science Center ($20 per child).

Join us Saturday morning at the North Campus beginning at 10:30 a.m. for Tailgate Alley before the football game at 1 p.m. against Christopher Newport University. Lunch, which will be provided by Kickback Jack's, costs $5 per person. Please brings cans of food to the football game to support Cans Across the Conference. In addition to the football game, there is a volleyball game at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Grant Center as well as a men's soccer game at 4 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. that evening there will be an awards barbecue dinner at the home of Dr. Tiffany and Joe Franks. Dinner costs $10.

The festivities wrap up at 10 a.m. on Sunday with a Service of Remembrance in Blount Chapel. During the service we will remember members of the Averett community who have passed away in the last year; followed by Sunday brunch in the dining hall in the Student Center (pay at the door).
