Education Department Attends Conference

November 6, 2012

Students and faculty of Averett's teacher education programs attended the Virginia Council for Exceptional Children Fall Conference (VA-CEC), Nov. 2, in Lynchburg. Participants had opportunities to network with educators throughout Virginia; attend sessions designed for professional development; share information on topics such as behavioral disorders and positive supports, technology, response to intervention, and instructional strategies for math, science and reading.

During the conference, students heard a keynote address from Ron Clark, founder of the Ron Clark Academy. Clark is known to many as "America's Educator." He is the 2000 Disney American Teacher of the Year, a two time New York Times bestselling author and the subject of a TV movie.

Averett participants included Allison Sparks, Carllnisha Johnson, Michael McGregor, Kaitlyn Fulcher, Brandon Hopkins, Caitlin Haws, Dr. George Odongo and Dr. Pamela Riedel.
