Morris Recognized with Equestrian Award

January 23, 2013

Carolyn "Cricket" Morris, equestrian associate and coach of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team, has been awarded the Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association (SWVHJA) Annual Sportsmanship Award. Morris was recognized with the award because she is always helping others no matter what team they ride for and she often helps the host team with the competition details before and after the event.

Morris has been appointed as the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Youth Committee Chair. She has served on the USHJA Youth Committee since its creation in 2003. This committee works to discover the interests of youth in the hunter/jumper discipline and creates activities that will interest them. One such activity that has been created is the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, which is designed to educate and recognize young equestrian who have exceptional horsemanship knowledge. Morris worked with other members of the committee to put on the inaugural Horsemanship Quiz Challenge finals in November 2012.

In addition to serving in the USHJA, she has served as president of the SWVHJA board for many years and just recently stepped down from that position.
